This club has a Scored Line face pattern and is a flanged sole, with the Maxwell Style holes in the hosel, marked with the Stag of St. Andrew Golf Co. Stamped with Arthur Hallam SPECIAL, Fairhaven in the oval, with Warranted, Hand Forged, MAXWELL MODEL, MASHIE NIBLICK, 31. Research tells us that This company used the “Ogg-Mented” version of designing balanced sets of clubs which was invented by Willie Ogg. Denny Shute used St. Andrew clubs in winning the 1933 British Open. Other players used theses clubs in the 1930’s were Gene Sarazen and Johnny Farrell.
Their “stag” mark was in use from 1910-1925, while the “sun” mark was first used in 1925. This Club is in good playable condition with a new Grip and Wax coated thread use for the whipping then finished with Shellac to protect it from any bag damage that may occur. Please note: All our Clubs have been fully restored by a professional restorer of Hickory Golf Clubs; it/they may arrive with a Tarnish Guard to protect it from the damp air which will allow it to rust, and should be replaced after cleaning.
