A print of R. S. E. Gallen 1800-1850, Gallen painted Alick Brotherton (1756-1840) better known as ‘Old Alick, the Holecutter’, which was first painted in Bernard Darwin’s A Golfer’s Gallery of Old Masters in 1920. Alick caddied at the of Royal Blackheath Golf Club London and was responsible for cutting new holes in greens when it became necessary. This painting has been reproduced in various sizes and styles over the years. Most of the prints which exist are overruns from Darwin’s book. Are cent limited edition in a larger size has been issued.
