This club is a Tom Morris champion Putter with a Hickory Shaft, hand made in St. Andrews, Scotland by Millar Golf. This club is a scare-neck longnose wooden head Putter, with a nice wood grain finish and a fibre insert held in place by three woodern dowels with a back lead wieght and across the crown are the words Tom Morris St Andrews. Research tells us that Charles L Millar started his business in 1895 and primarily used a “”Thistle”” mark. He was a prolific, but little known, cleekmaker who also produced and sold two private brands under the names og Glasgow Golf Co. and Thistle Golf Co. We also know that this mark of Tom Morris Sr. was initiated after Old Tom’s death and was used through the 1940’s by the firm which still bears the Morris name today. The heads were forged by Stewart and sometimes sold by Brodie of Anstruther. Robert Brodie & Son of Anstruther, the original Robert Brodie, a blacksmith and clubmaker of the nineteenth century, was the father and grand-father of the owner of the firm. These Brodies were primarily retailers of golf equipment who probably did some club assembly work. The “”triangle”” mark is usually found in conjunction with a maker’s cleekmark. This Club is in good playable condition with a new Grip and Wax coated thread use for the whipping then finished with Shellac to protect it from any bag damage that may occur.
